LO2 Sketches/ Mock Ups
The purpose of the sketches is to create a music festival graphic designs for the logos and any iconography. The purpose of the sketches are to associate the festival with an icon that will be remembered and is very distinct. The sketches also need to link with the target audience and genre of the music festival.
I started by drawing the iconography associated with the music festival being the mountain hills with cracks and lines in them, I feel as though this relates to the stylistic conventions of the genre because my festival is centred around the genre of indie rock and that has connotations of earthy and rustic implications. It relates to earthy and urban designs, and also rough and jagged looking iconography such as the mountains with cracks and jagged lines.
The target audience for my music festival is young adults roughly 18-24 as it has dangerous and urban connotations. The festival is aimed at both genders but mainly focused towards to the male audience, because most of the bands are male and therefore relates to ideal self.
The font stays almost consistent throughout with a few exceptions, in all of the sketches the font and text is easily read and quite bold. This is because it is the title and needs to be easily read. The house style is consistent throughout, being a mixture of shades of yellow, orange, brown and black relating to the stylistic conventions of the genres.
All these design choices are to relate to the target audience and purpose, relating to stylistic conventions of the genre. The colour, shapes and images all relate to the genre and target audience.

LO1 Analysing Existing Graphic Design Work
Glastonbury Festival
Purpose
The purpose for the advertising in this case was to promote the festival. One of the ways in which it is obvious that these products are meant to promote the festival is the line up poster, displaying all the acts performing and getting the attention of the fans of the band. It also informs as it clearly shows the date, times and location along with the acts performing. The T-shirt is clearly there to advertise the festival and for people to wear during the festival, also so the festival can make extra profit.
Format
In the package I am analysing there is; the logo, the line up poster and a piece of merchandise being a t shirt with the Glastonbury festival design on it. A benefit of having a package that includes different formats is that it raises awareness of the festival to a wider audience, also the more products available the more detail can be displayed and more information of the event. The more people know about the event, the more chance there is of them going.
Content
Style
The logo is very eye catching and has a unique arrangement, the bold colours contrasting to the black background makes it stand out. All these aspects connote that the logo is directed towards a young adult audience. The bold colours and arrangement connote that the genre of the event contains contemporary music, as well as dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret and other arts. The bright and bold colours connotes that it will be a happy and successful event. The colour scheme of blue, red, yellow, pink, green and white contrasting on a black background carries on throughout the package of products.
On the t-shirt the moon and stars denoted, connote that the festival is suitable for camping and over night stay, making it more appealing for people that have to travel long distances. The clean layout of the line up poster, having a very clear layout connotes that the festival is very organised and be fun and run smoothly. The primary colours used in the logo suggest that the festival will be very prominent and popular which will entice people to go. All the white space around the logo and on the other designs buts emphasise on the important aspects, making the festival itself seem very important.

All the white space around the logo and on the other designs buts emphasise on the important aspects, making the festival itself seem very important.
Layout
The composition of this package is always really neat and the layout is well positioned. For the line up poster the logo is at the top of the page with the largest text so it stands out and is the first thing that can be seen. Above the logo right at the top in white writing is the dates of the event (important information) this is also meant to be highlighted as one of the first things that can be seen. Below the logo in white text also is the locations, white text is used to signify importance as the date and location are important information.
Below all the logos and important highlighted information is the acts that are performing, in varying colours so that all the text doesn't blend together. This also allows the text to be more organised at the same time as being easily read. There are two central hands pointing either side, towards the bottom this is to break up the text and improve the layout. There are 3 columns for the line up text and there is a white followed by a black border. There is no foreground and background as no two items overlap each other.
Target Audience
Based on the design of the package for the festival I would say that the target audience is teenagers and young adults, roughly from 16 to 24 year olds. The design is clean and eye catching, not childish but also not particularly sophisticated and therefore not aimed towards older adults. The bold and bright colours would be aimed more towards teenagers and young adults to catch their attention, and also the black background contrast directly to all the bright colours yet again catching their attention.
The acts performing at the event are a wide mix of acts, some of which are very popular and world renowned acts. The variety of men and women acts at the festival suggests that the festival is aimed at both men and women, and supports the ideal self theory that the acts performing could be their idols. The spending power would roughly be AB audience, because it is a very popular festival the tickets would be expensive and therefore only AB audiences would be able to afford it. Also the AB audiences would be able to afford drinks and merchandise while they are there, as well as travel.
Regulatory Bodies
There is no harmful, offensive or misleading information because that would connote that the event is untrustworthy and nobody would attend, and therefore the festival wouldn't reach a mass audience. Also since the advertising campaigns are meant to reach to a large audience they are generally seen by everyone and including children, therefore there can be no harmful or offensive information because it isn't suitable for them. Also misleading information wouldn't help the festival at all, but would give it a bad reputation.
Based on the event itself and the connotations that come along with festivals, the themes that could have been glorified but haven't are the alcohol consumption and drug use. This is because these are stereotypes of what happens at a festival, but the advertising package hasn't exaggerated or even mentioned this concept in anyway.
As seen from the advertising package no logos or sponsors can be found on any of the formats, they haven't used any of the bands/ acts logos or used on sponsorships trademarks and therefore wouldn't have to pay and go through the hassle of getting permission. Also they are a large and well known festival and may not of felt the need to have sponsors or bands logos as they know people will attend the event anyway.

Wireless Festival
Purpose
The purpose of the products are to promote the festival. The line up poster clearly shows the acts that are performing and therefore is meant to promote the festival and interest people. The tickets are clearly the way of getting into the festival and therefore all products are to promote the festival so you will buy a ticket. Also the line up poster also shows the dates and location showing clearly all the information you will need.
Format
The products featured in my package are; the logo, the line up poster and the tickets. Benefits of having a package that includes products from different formats are; reaches out to a wider audience, informs more people and therefore the more they know the more chance they have of knowing.
The style of the logo is very simple but has subtle visually appealing aspects such as change in shades of blue. The text is very prominent and bold being Sans Serif, making the text stand out and connote importance and prominence. The logo is very eye catching and prominent and is associated with all the package products, making it recognisable and ties all the products together. The colour scheme for the products roughly stays the same throughout the package being; white, blue, pink and purple.
On the line up poster there are lots of fragmented triangles contrasting each other in the different colours of the colour scheme, this may connote that the festival will be modern and fun; this is further supported by the actual name of the festival being 'Wireless'. The abstract layout and design of the line up poster connotes that popular and new acts will perform, appealing to fans of the bands and enticing more people to go. The same sort of colour scheme and design is denoted throughout the products in the package, connoting success and correspondence.
The products denote prominent and modern designs, which connote the target audience being young adults as they are the most known for technology.

Layout
The composition of the package is fairly neat and the layout is generally successful throughout all the products. At the top of the line up poster there is the logo being the largest and boldest text so it is the first thing that can be seen, followed by the date and location to the side of the logo. There is a lot of white space around the logo and the date and location because it is key information and needs to be focused on.
Below are the dates and the acts performing on that specific day, they are positioned in rows that are separate from one another to separate the key information, and so it isn't too much text together. The background consists of the white background an the fragmented shapes, where as the foreground consists of the text and the logo. There is a lot of white space on the poster to break up the information and making it more easily read.

Target Audience
The design of the festival links to theme of modern and current technologies, which would suggest that the festival is aimed at young adults and teenagers, yet again ranging from 16 to 24. The design is simple yet eye catching which would be aimed towards a younger audience, the bold and primary colours also supports this.
With this festival the acts performing at the festival are both male and female, but the acts are mainly male suggesting that the festival is aimed more towards men rather than women but still tries to attract women. This is supported by the colour scheme being predominantly blue, which is known to be a male colour. The theory of ideal self / ideal partner applies here especially to the male audience. This is a popular festival and therefore the spending power of the audience would come under AB, because drinks and merchandise as well as travel and the actual cost of the tickets needs to be taken into account.
Regulatory Bodies

Nos Alive'16
Purpose
The purpose of advertising in this case was to promote the festival. One of the ways in which I know that these products are meant to promote is that the line up poster has the acts playing, the dates and locations of the events, all meant to entice people and inform them about the event. Also the line up poster has a photograph of the festival in action meant to entice people to come and buy tickets. Also the t-shirts/ merchandise are suppose to spread the information across a wider spread by advertising across different formats.
Format
The types of products featured in my package are; the logo, the line up poster and the t-shirt/ merchandise with the logo printed on it. The benefits of having a package that includes different formats allows the event to reach a wider audience and inform the audience on different formats. The more they know, the more chance there is of them actually buying a ticket and going.
Content
Style
The logo consists of the text, and then it is surrounded by trees and branches connoting that the event will be outdoors and there will be camping opportunities, as well as the event being peaceful and fun. The black logo on the white background surrounded by white space connotes importance and prominence. The t-shirt is the same logo with the colour scheme inverted which implies that this event supports multiple genre of music, and supports all different acts and can be versatile.
The line up poster denotes a photograph from the festival where there are bright lights and someone on someone else's shoulder having a great time, this connotes that the festival will be positive, upbeat and also will partially/ all be held at night time. As supported by the vibrancy and modern design the target audience is connoted to be young adults.
Layout
The layout for this package is fairly neat, and the text is always spread out and easy to read. The layout of the poster consists of the logo being in the top left hand corner, being the largest aspect of the poster in terms of text so it draws attention to it and makes it seem important. The dates and locations are positioned next to the logo, in bright yellow writing on the purple background to stand out because it is important information.
Below the logo and key information is the acts performing on the specific day, they are positioned in rows and then separated by spaces between the dates so that too much information isn't together, making it easier to digest. The important information is highlighted in yellow and red.
The background consists of the purple wavy background and the photograph of the festival at night, and the foreground consists of all the text and the logo.
Target Audience
The design of the package being brightly coloured with a simple yet eye catching design, suggest that the festival is aimed at young adults. But because the name of the festival connoting drugs and drinking, I would suggest that it would be aimed at 18-24 year olds rather than 16+.
I would say that the festival is mainly aimed towards the male audience, because the acts are predominantly male apart from a few exceptions, as well as the colour scheme being slightly dark and masculine. The idea of the male acts performing enticing a male audience supports the ideal self theory. Since this is a less popular festival compared to other major festivals, I would say the spending power of the audience would be roughly BC1 because the tickets will be cheaper since its a less major festival. And also things like merchandise wouldn't be as important, but travel and drinks and food need to be taken into account.
Regulatory Bodies
There is no harmful, offensive or misleading information because that would connote that the event is untrustworthy and nobody would attend, and therefore the festival wouldn't reach a mass audience. This is because these are stereotypes of what happens at a festival, but the advertising package hasn't exaggerated or even mentioned this concept in anyway. Even though the name of the festival is related to drugs, but that isn't common knowledge and therefore isn't glorified or even focused on as part of the advertising campaign.
V Festival
Purpose
The purpose of advertising this package in this case is to promote the festival, as well as sell the product being the tickets to the event. I know this based on the ticket clearly being the thing that is trying to be promoted, and the line up poster clearly showing all the acts, dates and locations meant to entice people. As well as the logo which is the face of the festival, associated with all the products and meant to be promoted.
Format
The type of products that are featured in my package are; the logo, the ticket and the line up poster. The benefits of having an advertising package that includes different formats is that it reaches a wider audience, as well as informing a wider audience about the event influencing them to go and it gives them a more informed decision. Also the more formats that are advertised, the more products out there advertising the event and therefore more people are aware of the festival.
Content
Style
The logo consists of the text and a love heart attached to it, with the text being red on a white background creating contrast and making it more prominent and stand out. The love heart connotes peace and people coming together for their love of music. The white space around the logo connotes that the logo is important and significant, making it more prominent and appealing to people thinking about buying tickets.
The colour scheme for the package of products being yellow, red, white and purple; all really bright and prominent colours. These colours suggest that the festival is directed towards young adults, this is further reinforced by the carnival ride drawings in the corner of the line up poster, connoting a fun and exciting time and also suggesting new experiences. The genre of the product is a music festival reinforced by the tickets being sold, and also all the acts listed on the line up poster which are in bright prominent colours to indicate that the text is important.

Layout
The layout of the package is fairly neat and organised throughout the products. The line up poster consists of the logo being positioned right at the top in the centre with red writing on the yellow background making it the first thing that can be seen as it is important. Below all the logo and drawings and the yellow background is a white box with text in it which is the foreground.
In the foreground all the dates are positioned at the top in black text and are assorted in columns and rows. Below that are the acts performing; the first set are positioned in rows and columns, the second set are just positioned just in rows but are centred. Then the text is separated again with dotted lines and underneath there is some more key information.
Target Audience
The design of the festival suggests that the age of the target audience would be young adults ranging from 16-24 year olds. This is supported by the sort of childish and simple design, as well as the bright and bold colours. As well as having the text big, bold and easy to read.
Because the acts are generally split in terms of gender, I would say the festival is both trying to attract male and female audiences, which would support the ideal self theory and also the ideal partner theory. Since this is a very popular festival and has some very important and well known acts, I would say that tickets prices would be expensive and it would be more likely for an AB audience to attend the events, also because of the prices of travel and merchandise.
Regulatory Bodies

Hurricane Festival
Purpose
The purpose of the advertising is to promote the festival as well as sell a product being the tickets to the event. I know this based on line up poster clearly showing the acts, the dates and location. All these aspects along with the logo and merchandise such as the t-shirt are meant to promote the event.
Format
The types of products featured in my package that I am analysing are; the logo, the line up poster and t-shirt. The benefits of having a package that includes different formats is that cross promotion, and the potential to spread the news of the event to a wider audience and inform on a larger scale.
Content
Style
The logo is a very simple yet bold logo, being black text with a black background, the logo is surrounded by white space connoting that it is important and direct attention towards it. In the other products the logo's colour scheme is inverted because the background for the other products is darker so the text need to stand out more.
The boar in the t-shirt design connotes the genre and the target audience of the event, being adults with the genre being rock. This is further reinforced by the name of the festival being 'Hurricane' making the genre of the festival being rock. The boar also connotes the fierceness of the festival and that its going to be quite hostile, yet again supported by the name of the festival. But the green colour denoted in the background connotes outside and nature, as well as camping facilities.
Layout
Below the logo and the dates and locations are the acts in the line up, positioned in rows and centred. The foreground consists of the boar zoomed in, being green and black and the foreground consist of all the text and the logo displayed in white to stand out. This poster contains a lot of white space, so that you can more easily focus the important information.
Target Audience
The design of the package is generally quite dark and more aggressive compared to other festivals, which would imply that the festival is aimed more towards young adults ranging from 18 to 24 year olds. This is supported by the darker tones, and the iconic logo being an aggressive boar.
Because of the acts performing being predominantly male as well the design being masculine and aggressive, I would suggest that the festival is aimed towards males, which supports the ideal self theory. Because the festival isn't as well known as other festivals and the acts are less well known, I would suggest this festival is aimed at an audience with the spending power of BC because the ticket prices would be cheaper, although travel and drink and food as well as merchandise need to be considered.
Regulatory Bodies
